My son Matt’s experience in barbecue competitions started as a fun hobby, but it quickly transformed into a meaningful way to serve others in crisis. After Harvey hit Rockport, Matt saw the power of bringing trailer pits and refrigeration trucks to cook meals for first responders who were working tirelessly. Over five or six days, he and his team prepared breakfast, lunch, and dinner, meeting a critical need for nourishment and support.
Matt’s service doesn’t stop at hurricanes. He regularly cooks for disaster victims and first responders, like his ongoing partnership to provide meals for Kerrville’s first responders. When emergencies strike, having the equipment and skills to feed large groups allows us to step in and make a difference.
